Hydro Modelling - PhD position open

The Centre for Geoinformatics is participating in the EU FP7 Marie Curie Initial Training Network CHANGES -  "Changing Hydro-meteorological Risks – as Analyzed by a New Generation of European Scientists" -  see  http://itc.nl/changes.
Currently, the application period is open for a PhD position in the context of hydrological modelling, titled "Development and application of probabilistic models for flood hazard assessment at regional and local scales".
The PhD researcher will be based at Z_GIS (University of Salzburg), and will have the opportunity to stay at partner institutions (ITC, geomer) for several months.

Publication in Computers & Geosciences

Solid modeling of fossil small mammal teeth
A work flow has been established for extracting, from μCT data, the most important morphological features in Small Mammal Teeth. Making it open to the scientific community, this innovative approach has been published in the renowned Geoinformatics journal “Computers & Geosciences”. The digital version of this SCI indexed publication can be downloaded via:

Main components of the published work flow are microtomography, 3D OBIA, and voxel modeling.

Z_GIS Annual Report 2010 Published

Once again, the Centre for Geoinformatics Annual Report has been published as a record of achievements summarizing the previous year. Starting with an overview of our institutional mission and recent development trends this booklet introduces current Z_GIS faculty and then presents highlights from research projects, shows impressive statistics of UNIGIS programs and details the outcomes from the AGIT and GI_Forum conferences. Overall, this brochure is directed to our project partners, highlighting the competences and capacities Z_GIS is offering through collaborative research and various kinds of joint initiatives.

GI_Forum 2011: Final Call for Papers

Themes & Application Fields. GI_Forum solicits contributions on emerging topics and research outcomes related to GIScience and Technology. Advanced visualisation and cartography, geospatial data acquisition, advanced spatial analysis and knowledge extraction, distributed and mobile services, SDI, and dynamic modelling and simulation comprise by no means an exhaustive list of symposium topics.

In addition GI_Forum welcomes submissions addressing the following issues:

* Global Change: Monitoring and Modelling
* Climate Change and Spatial Vulnerability Assessment
* Learning with Geoinformation

Deadline for submission of full papers for oral presentation and publication in the conference proceedings and extended abstracts for discussion sessions: 01 February 2011.

2009-2010 ÖAW GIScience report published

The ÖAW Institute for Geographic Information Science 2009 - 2010 Research Report has been published as a record of achievements summarizing the last two years.

This brochure presents a range of significant developments that have taken place since the official opening in May 2007. Since then, 'ÖAW GIScience' has evolved from a scientific startup into an established and recognized centre for fundamental research in Geographic Information Science topics.
